Esther Scroll (IX.4)
First half of the 17th century
Ink on parchment, 2 membranes, 11 text columns, 22 lines per column 147 × 992 mm (5.8 × 39.1 in.) Wooden roller, 260 mm (10.2 in.)
This scroll is decorated with elaborately drawn monochrome architectural panels that enframe two text columns (except for the last panel which contains a single text column). The vertical elements of the frames are composed of angels with the hands crossed on their chests and their hips covered with loincloths. The first sheet of this scroll is missing and the text starts with Esther 4:3.
