Book of Leviticus given as a gift to David Miller, teacher and principle for the school of the Samaritan children in Nablus, which was run by the Department of Education of the Zionist Executive in the land of Israel from the first half of the 1920s to the first half of the 1940s.

The work includes a “tashkil,” a method of inserting a scribal testimony without violating the commandments of “do not add and do not subtract [from the Torah].” The text is arranged in two columns and the words are positioned such that the necessary letters appear in the space between the columns. The tashkil begins on page 77 and reads as follows:

I am Amram ben Yitzkhak ben Amram haCohen haLevi. I wrote this sacred work in the year 3572 of the Israelites’ habitation of the land of Canaan, in the name of dear and wise Mr. David Miller. This gift is given in his honor. May God bless him abundantly, amen.
