This Hebrew translation of Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews was translated and copied by Richard Bruarne (1519-1565), Regius Professor of Hebrew at Oxford (1546-1556), Canon of Christ Church, and Provost of Eton. The text begins with a Latin commentary, which commences: “Splendissimo principi Henrico octauo semper inuicto. Angliae, Franciae, Hiberniae regi, fidei defensori…” This manuscript was apparently a presentation copy prepared by Bruarne and given to Henry VIII. The introduction concludes in Aramaic, quoting Daniel 6:22: Malka le-‘almin heyi! — May the king live forever.
