    This handsome medieval miscellany is extensively decorated and illuminated, from small ornaments at the beginnings of scriptural sections to full-page scenes at the beginnings of various texts. The illustrations contain not only floral and faunal motifs but scenes of medieval life and lore, including castles and dragons, as well as scenes illustrative of the texts. The copyist, Abraham ben Samuel of Wenigerode, prepared this manuscript for his uncle, Israel, and completed it in 1393. At one point when his name, Abraham, is mentioned he inserts an image of a person in the distinctive garb of a copyist.

    The text contains:

    (a) the Pentateuch with marginal commentary (not Rashi);

    (b) Mahzor and Minhagim;

    (c) Isaac ben Joseph of Corbeil’s Sefer Mitsvot katan;

    (d) an extract of Isaac ben Meir of Düren’s Isur ve-heter.
