The Jews of the Comtat Venaissin were distinctive for using a liturgy based on the old Provençal rite. This handsome liturgical manuscript from the Provençal rite (Avignon, Carpentras, L’Isle, etc.) was copied in a fluid hand, with strong initial words and some slight ornamentation in the Haggadah. Notably, the Passover liturgy ends with “Lel Shir ha-Shirim” according to the rite of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
