Aha of Shabha (680-752) has the distinction of having written the first work of post-Talmudic literature, his She’iltot. A sui generis work mixing halakhah, aggada, and midrash, it is important among other things for its preservation of certain traditions not found in the Talmud. This manuscript is intermittently decorated with geometric designs and a fully ornamented concluding page. At the end (leaf 179v) it also contains the brief record of an exchange of books between Elḳanah be-R. Yosef Palgo and R. Avshalom mi-Ḳahal Pandi, dated 1476. The manuscript is bound in contemporary parchment which shows traces of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew writing that have been scraped off.
