    Place:
    North Africa

    Date:
    19th century

    Description:
    Ink and gouache on parchment, 6 membranes, 15 text columns, 24-26 lines per column + benediction sheet 260 × 3470 mm (10.2 × 136.6 in.) + 147 × 177 (5.8 × 7.0 in.) Wooden roller, ca. 460 mm (18.1 in.)

Hand painted scroll with each of the text columns enframed within separate decorative panels formed of simple geometric designs and floral motifs. Ornamentation used in this scroll bears a resemblance to motifs used in Islamic design and architecture.

The benediction sheet is separate and undecorated. It may not have been originally created together with the scroll.
