    Manuscript ID:
    Scrolls 46 (V.1)

    Place:
    Italy, Lugo or Ancona

    Date:
    Ca. 1800

    Description:
    Hand-painted Ink and gouache on parchment, 6 membranes, 23 text columns, 16 lines per column + benediction sheet 165 × 3815 mm (6.5 × 150.2 in.) + 165 × 325 (6.5 × 12.8 in.) Wooden roller, 290 mm (11.4 in.)

The text columns are separated by the panels filled with simple motifs including plants, butterflies and birds. The same decorative motifs appear on the separate benediction sheet. The fore-edge of the separate benediction sheet was trimmed into a semicircle and decorated with a double-headed eagle, likely a coat of arms of one of the Italian Jewish families.  The fore-edge of the first membrane of the scroll was also trimmed into a decorative shape.
